The government worked with community and disability experts to create the first set of disability flags. These were previously known as disability indicators.  The factsheet and explanatory notes on this website still refer to them as indicators.

Disability flags are community supported ways of measuring disability in the National Disability Data Asset.

The flags will be improved over time.

Researchers can request access to these flags to create insights of benefit to people with disability and the wider disability community.

The first set of disability flags include people that receive disability-related government payments and services.

The first set of flags do not include all people with disability in Australia.

Future flags will aim to better represent Australians with disability.
