What is a National Disability Data Asset project
A National Disability Data Asset project is a project in PLIDA or NHDH that clearly identifies people with disability as one of the main research groups. It must follow National Disability Data Asset co-governance.
Under the National Disability Data Asset program’s interim delivery approach, researchers can access data for disability insights and research through the dual-asset model:
- Person Level Integrated Data Asset (PLIDA) run by the Australian Bureau of Statistics
- National Health Data Hub (NHDH) run by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.
What do researchers need to do?
For disability research projects, researchers are generally required to:
- agree to follow the principles and rules in the Charter
- agree to publish some of their findings in accessible formats
- meet other researcher and project requirements, like using data in an ethical way.
When can researchers apply?
Researchers can apply now to generate disability focused insights via:
- PLIDA – Accessing integrated data | Australian Bureau of Statistics [register here]
- NHDH - How to access the NHDH - Australian Institute of Health and Welfare
Please note you must email the PLIDA and/or NHDH team to receive all the information needed for your application.
What data is available?
Data for disability research projects is now available through PLIDA and the NHDH and can be requested.
More information on data in PLIDA is available at: PLIDA and Microdata: Person Level Integrated Data Asset (PLIDA)
More information on data in NHDH is available on the AIHW website.
National Disability Data Asset Project requirements
All National Disability Data Asset research projects must share accessible insights. This is principle 6 of the National Disability Data Asset Charter. For more information, please visit the guiding principles page of our website.
The National Disability Data Asset Council have discussed accessible insights. They agreed on what research projects must share. These requirements are in a factsheet. This factsheet is available on the requirement to share accessible insights page of our website.
We will publish the accessible insights on the completed research projects page when they are available.
