The National Disability Data Asset Council makes sure people are using the Data Asset in the right way.

The Council had a meeting on 21 May 2025.

The Council works with a group called the Disability-informed Ethical Oversight Panel.

In this document, we call this group the Ethical Oversight Panel.

The Ethical Oversight Panel helps to make sure the Data Asset does the right thing.

The Ethical Oversight Panel is a group of people who:

• check what research projects people want to use the Data Asset for

• check that projects are unlikely to harm people with disability.

The Ethical Oversight Panel includes:

• people with disability

• people who know a lot about disability.

The Council agreed to update the list of work that the Ethical Oversight Panel has to do.

The Council also agreed that the Ethical Oversight Panel members will stay the same until the end of 2025.

The Council said they will review the Data Asset between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2026.

When you review something, you check to see what:

• works well
• needs to be better.

This means they will have more information about how the Data Asset could work better.

The Council talked about research about First Nations people with disability.

The Council want to make sure that research doesn’t harm First Nations:

• people
• communities.

The Council agreed that there is more work to do.

The Ethical Oversight Panel shared their inclusive research guide.

When research is inclusive, everyone can take part.

The guide is about research that uses data that has already been collected from the government.

This includes data about:

• services people use

• education

• employment.

Employment means you:

• have a job
• go to work
• get paid.

The guide is still a draft.

A draft is a document that isn’t finished yet.

The Council shared their ideas about the guide.

This included what:

• works well
• could be better.

The Council heard from DSS.

We talked about what data has been added to the Data Asset.

The Council will have their next meeting in August 2025.
